During an extended hearing on Tuesday, two witnesses testified in Case 002. Prom Sou, a former Khmer Rouge official who was based in northern Preah Vihear province, was questioned in the morning by the prosecution and civil party lawyers. In the afternoon, Philippe Max Jullian-Gaufres– requested as a character witness for Khieu Samphan – was questioned via videoconference from France.
The Trial Chamber of the ECCC has rejected accused Khieu Samphan’s requests to be granted bail and to be tried separately from his Case 002 co-accused in the interests of a speedy judgment on all charges.

Witness Ieng Phan, a former Khmer Rouge military commander who joined the revolution after the 1970 coup d’état by General Lon Nol, testified about military structure and policy before and during Democratic Kampuchea.
